Week 6—Instapaper Userscript

This is a week late, I’ve had the code sitting on my localserver but just haven’t found the time to write about it, yes, really. I really quite enjoyed doing the reddit userscript—even if the code was a bit ugly, no doubt I’ll go back and tidy it up—so I thought I would follow on from that and write one for Instapaper.

For those not in the know, Instapaper is probably best described as a bookmarking tool. You stick a bookmarket in your address bar and when you want to save something to read later, you click it and it’s saved in your Instapaper account. It’s damn useful, especially if you’re travelling a lot.

The goal of this script was less about aesthetics and more about tidying things up and de-cluttering the UI. By no means is it finished, if you want to contribute I’ll be setting up a github repository shortly, just drop a comment and I’ll notify you when it’s up. Update: You can contribute to the project via this repository on github

Before: Before Instapaper Userscript

After:

As before, this has only been tested in Chrome (Chrome users can click the link below and it should give you an install dialogue automatically). The script should work in other browsers (Firefox & Safari), although installation might be a bit different.
